Sites of interest or utility
Enclave ArqueolĂłgico de Carteia, an archaeological site dating from the 7th century BC, was founded by the Carthaginians. It consists of a large and valuable heritage, which includes a Roman temple of the Republican era, several Roman houses and a large building from the time of the Emperor Augustus.
Pinar del Rey is also a must visit. It is a 338-hectare suburban park dating back to 1800, when the Spanish Navy planted trees in order to supply timber for warships.
Other places of interest are Nuestra Señora de la Visitación Shrine, dating from the eighteenth century and houses the image of the Nazarene recovered from Gibraltar, and Museo Municipal de San Roque, a museum that has part of the pieces found in the site of Carteia.
What to do in San Roque
Walking the Ruta del Toro you can visit the livestock areas of San Roque and discover how the native animals of Cádiz are raised, being a cultural activity of great value.

There are two very important natural sites in San Roque: Estuario del RĂo Guadiaro and Laguna de Torreguadiaro. Both are wetlands of great importance for many species of birds and excellent places where ornithologists can observe birds.
