Through this route you can enjoy the charming Andalusian villages. From Malaga to Almuñécar (Granada) you can enjoy its historical and cultural heritage and its coasts, with endless avenues and beaches, where you can go diving and discover the seabed. Another of the advantages of this route is that you can enjoy the delicious cuisine while watching the spectacular views.
Almuñécar, which is located in the Costa Tropical (Granada), is a popular tourist destination, partly due to its favorable climatic conditions and abundant vegetation.
Throughout its 19 kilometers of coastline there are beaches of all kinds, from the most urban, such as Playa Puerta del Mar or Fuentepiedra, La Herradura and Velilla, to coves located between cliffs, far from the population centers, being gravel and/or sandy beaches.
You can practice a wide variety of water activities, such as sailing, windsurfing or kayaking or rent jet skis, as well as different types of outdoor sports such as paragliding, mountain biking or hiking.
Jardín Museo del Bonsái is the most important in Andalusia and one of the best in the country. With an area of 2000 square meters, it has a great variety of species, both native to the province and the Mediterranean Coast, as well as to the rest of Europe and Asia.
Among the monuments of Almuñécar stand out Acueducto Romano, which was built in the 1st century AD, and the Fábrica de Salazones, the best-preserved construction of Roman times in the town.
Castillo de San Miguel, a castle from the Muslim period that can be seen from almost any part of the city, and Cueva de los Siete Palacios de Almuñécar, that currently houses the Municipal Archaeological Museum, are also a must see.
The restaurant – beach bar Playamar has a modern decoration with an Ibizan touch. Its location is simply unbeatable: in Playa Velilla, very close to Playa del Tesorillo; that charms everyone who visits it to be able to enjoy beautiful views.
Among the dishes on his menu include grilled meats, fish and delicious rice dishes, as well as a typical dish of Granada, Malaga and Almeria cuisine that could not be missed: the espetos.
In La Herradura, (Almuñécar) you will have the opportunity to discover its wide fauna and underwater flora thanks to the Open Water diving center. Its facilities are located on the beach, facing the incredible bay.
Open Water, in addition to offering diving courses certified by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), also initiates beginners with a “diving baptism”. The instructors will be always watching you, so you can enjoy quietly of the wonders that are under the sea.
